Insider Tours
Insider Tours at the Queens County Farm Museum
Our Insider Tours provide an immersive, behind-the-scenes exploration of New York City’s largest remaining working farm. Perfect for advanced learners, academic groups, and adult audiences, these experiences connect biology, environmental science, sustainability, and urban gardening through hands-on experiential learning.
Urban Gardening, Trees & Sustainable Growing
Examine the science of growing plants in the city and beyond. Participants explore soil health, composting systems, hydroponic methods, and urban planting strategies while learning how gardeners maximize yield, minimize waste, and improve ecosystems. This tour can also include a forest walk to explore trees, including our American Chestnuts, with discussions about their role in urban ecosystems, biodiversity, and soil health.
Ideal for AP Environmental Science, Biology, horticulture clubs, and urban gardening enthusiasts.
Soil, Composting & Hydroponics Lab
Investigate the building blocks of healthy ecosystems. Students learn how composting recycles nutrients, how soil chemistry supports plant growth, and how hydroponics enables precise, controlled cultivation. Discussions connect these techniques to environmental sustainability, urban growing, and applied science problem-solving.
Perfect for AP Environmental Science, environmental clubs, and those interested in applied biology and ecology.
Animal Science & Livestock Care
Step into the world of animal biology and hands-on care. Participants learn about nutrition, health monitoring, habitat management, and daily routines that keep farm animals healthy and thriving. This tour emphasizes practical skills and scientific knowledge relevant to careers as vet technicians, veterinary assistants, or livestock managers. Students also explore how animals interact with soil, crops, and ecosystems, connecting animal care to broader environmental science.
Great for biology students, aspiring veterinary professionals, and anyone interested in hands-on livestock study.
