Fun with Fungi
February 21 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$10
This year, the farm is beginning our foray into the cultivation of culinary mushrooms and we are so excited about it, we’d like to share this experience with the public in the form of a class.
To demonstrate the amazing ability of oyster mushrooms to consume and grow on almost any material, participants will make and take home their own mushroom-growing kit, consisting of a container containing a soggy roll of (unused) toilet paper stuffed with mushroom spawn, which, with very little care, can produce oyster mushrooms (yes, safe to eat) in less than two months.
The hour-long class will include some fun(gal) information about fungi on the farm and in farm compost, and students will make a little mushroom craft in addition to “planting” (in the roll of toilet paper) their new cardboard-and-toilet-paper-eating fungi pet.
