About Queens County Farm Museum
Queens County Farm Museum is one of the longest continuously farmed sites in New
York State, with a history dating back to 1697. Situated on 47 acres in eastern Queens,
the Farm Museum is a New York City Landmark and a nationally recognized historic
site that welcomes more than 500,000 visitors annually.


The Farm Museum preserves New York City’s agricultural heritage while providing
hands-on education, environmental stewardship, historic preservation, food access
initiatives, and public programming for visitors of all ages. The site includes historic
buildings, growing fields, livestock, gardens, an apiary, a farm store, and year-round
educational and cultural programming.

The Opportunity

Queens County Farm Museum is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and enthusiastic
Grounds & Maintenance Crew Member to join our Operations team.

This entry-level position plays an important role in maintaining our 47-acre historic farm
and ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for visitors, students,
volunteers, animals, and staff. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working
outdoors, takes pride in hands-on work, and is interested in gaining experience in
facilities maintenance, groundskeeping, agriculture, and event operations.

Training will be provided.


Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Grounds & Site Maintenance
    • Maintain the appearance and functionality of farm grounds, gardens, pathways, fences, and public spaces.
    • Assist with mowing, landscaping, planting, snow removal, and seasonal groundskeeping projects.
    • Support general site beautification and upkeep.
  • Facilities Maintenance
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
    • Assist with maintaining buildings, restrooms, storage areas, workshops, and operational facilities.
    • Report maintenance issues and safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Events & Operations Support
    • Assist with the setup and breakdown of festivals, educational programs, site rentals, and public events.
    • Move tables, chairs, equipment, supplies, and materials as needed.
    • Support daily farm operations and special projects throughout the year.
  • Equipment & Safety
    • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment following training and established safety procedures.
    • Assist with the care and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
    • Follow all organizational safety policies and procedures.
  • Visitor Support
    • Help ensure a positive visitor experience by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
    • Provide basic directions and assistance to visitors when needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as needed.
  • Interest in agriculture, landscaping, facilities maintenance, parks, museums, or public
    service is a plus.

Work Environment
This position involves physical labor, outdoor work in all seasons, and frequent walking
across a 47-acre site. Employees should be comfortable working around farm animals,
agricultural equipment, and varying weather conditions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $18.00 per hour
