Newton Pippin Apples
The Newtown Pippin has a storied history as “America’s apple” with origins here in Queens County. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Queen Victoria all had connections to this incredible fruit. In this lecture we’ll dive into the history of Newtown, Queens, where the apple was first discovered, and the history of this apple variety, from its first seedling, to its importance as an export, to its heirloom status today. We’ll also sample dessert products made with Newtown Pippins.
