Bug Buddies: Cicadas
August 3 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm
$12
This program is part of our Bug Buddies series!
Join us for a deep dive into the world of cicadas, those loud summer singers with a secret life underground! Discover how these fascinating insects depend on trees—not just for food, but for their entire life cycle.
Did you know cicadas spend most of their lives as nymphs, hidden beneath the soil and feeding on tree roots? When they finally emerge, they climb trees to molt, sing, and lay eggs—making them essential (if noisy!) members of the ecosystem. In this program, we’ll explore their incredible life cycle and their role in the forest.
Classes will take place both outdoors (weather permitting) and indoors. All classes are hands-on, exploratory, and include a related activity.
Recommended for ages 3-10 years old, but all are welcome. One parent or guardian must remain with child(ren) at all times, this is not a drop-off program.
