Summer Farmyard Adventure

PreK-5th Grade: Get ready for summer fun at the Queens Farm! This comprehensive outdoor tour explores the many aspects of our historic farm. Students learn what crops we are growing, and how farm animals provide products that we use and consume every day. This program includes a hayride, visits to our educational teaching gardens, and students have the opportunity to feed a snack of hay to our goats!

6th- 12th Grade: This outdoor tour explores Colonial history and regenerative agriculture by learning about the farming techniques we implement today versus those that were utilized in Colonial times.  Additionally, students will be introduced to our livestock and learn about rotational grazing, companion planting, restoring biodiversity, and the history of our landmarked farmhouse.

Compost to Zero Waste & Fresh Veggies

Summer programs take place June 17th through August 30th.

REGISTRATION: Now open.

ADMISSION FEE: $12 per person. Minimum of 20 admissions per program.

PAYMENT DETAILS: Full payment due 3 weeks before your trip, payable by purchase order, school check or credit card. Minimum registration is 20 students/chaperones or $240.

CAPACITY: Capacity is determined by program and will be visible when booking.

TIME: 10am – 12:30pm (including lunch). Buses leave promptly at 12:30pm.

LUNCH: Lunch space is available on outdoor tables, picnic-style seating, or bleachers. Groups must bring their own lunches. 

HAYRIDES: All programs include a tractor-drawn hayride around the farm, weather-permitting.

Programs are rain or shine and nonrefundable.

K – 5th Grade: The powerful ecological value of compost comes to life in this hands-on workshop. Students learn the basic science of compost, the importance of decomposing critters, and how we harness natural processes to divert food waste from landfills, reduce pollution, and restore soil health. Students make “seed balls” using a combination of compost, clay, and wildflower seeds to bring back to school.

6th – 12th Grade: Students will be introduced to the process of composting and the important role it serves in diverting waste from landfills and mitigating the climate crisis. Students learn about consumers, producers, and decomposers in the composting process. Students make “seed balls” using a combination of compost, clay, and wildflower seeds to bring back to school.
