About Queens County Farm Museum
Queens County Farm Museum is one of the longest continually farmed sites in New York State,
dating back to 1697. As a designated New York City Landmark and a site on the National
Register of Historic Places, Queens Farm welcomes over 500,000 visitors annually. It connects
people to agriculture, colonial history and the environment, offering learning opportunities on
biodiversity, health and wellness, climate change, and the preservation of local history.
The Opportunity
Be the friendly face that greets visitors at the Queens County Farm Museum! As an Information Booth Docent, you’ll help guests discover all the fun and history our 47-acre farm has to offer.
If you love meeting new people, sharing stories, and being part of the buzz of farm life, this is the perfect role for you!
Responsibilities
Docents answer questions, hand out maps and event flyers, and let guests know what’s happening around the farm that day — whether it’s a hayride, a tour, or a hands-on workshop. You’ll become a go-to guide for all things QCFM, helping people explore, learn, and and enjoy everything that makes Queens County Farm such a unique NYC treasure!
Training will be provided for this position.
Required Qualifications & Experience
QCFM encourages applicants to apply even if they do not meet all of the below qualifications.
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic docent with:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm for museums and a passion for sharing knowledge.
- Experience working with diverse audiences, including children, families, and adults from different backgrounds and some with special needs.
Hours & Compensation
This is a volunteer, non-salaried position.
You will be positioned in front of our Farmhouse daily, from 10am – 1pm.
