About Queens County Farm Museum
Queens County Farm Museum is one of the longest continually farmed sites in New York State,
dating back to 1697. As a designated New York City Landmark and a site on the National
Register of Historic Places, Queens Farm welcomes over 500,000 visitors annually. It connects
people to agriculture, colonial history and the environment, offering learning opportunities on
biodiversity, health and wellness, climate change, and the preservation of local history.
The Opportunity
We are seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable docents to join our team! As a QCFM Education Department Docent, you will lead engaging tours for visitors of all ages, sharing your passion for our history, artifacts, farmhouse, and fostering a love of learning. This role offers a unique opportunity to connect with museum audiences, contribute to our educational programs, and make a positive impact on the community.
Responsibilities
We offer free tours of our Adriance Farmhouse every half hour from 11am – 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Training will be provided for this position.
Required Qualifications & Experience
QCFM encourages applicants to apply even if they do not meet all of the below qualifications.
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic docent with:
- A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in history or museum studies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm for museums and a passion for sharing knowledge.
- Availability to work most Saturdays or most Sundays.
- Experience in museum education or teaching.
- Knowledge of museum collections and history.
- Experience working with diverse audiences, including children, families, and adults from different backgrounds and some with special needs.
